Beech Grove High School
Indian Creek High School
Thursday night was senior night for the Braves. Prior to the start of the game, the teams four seniors, Michaela Smith, Kaylee Satter, Cheyenne Monetmaker and Hanna Fields were recognized with their parents and presented gifts. But the best gift of the night was the team coming from behind to beat Beech Grove, 11-7.
The first two innings saw strong defense from both teams to keep the game scoreless. The Braves almost plated a run in the second when Sydney Williams stole home on a passed ball, but Beech Grove made the out.
The top of the third saw Beech Grove take an early lead, 3-0. Neither team was able to get a run on the board in the fourth, leaving runners on base. In the top of the fifth, Beech Grove added 4 more runs, putting the Braves behind 0-7.
But the Braves responded with six runs in the bottom of the fifth. Michaela Smith led off the inning with a single, followed by a double from Kaylee Satter that advanced Smith to third, Hanna Fields’ hit to third base loaded the bases when Beech Grove held the ball to prevent Smith from scoring. But all three scored anyways when the next batter, Dori Knight hit a three-run double. Next came an RBI double by Rachel Kyle, an RBI single by Cheyenne Moneymaker, and a solo home run by Sydney Williams.
The Braves kept Beech Grove scoreless in the top of the sixth and started the bottom of the inning behind by one. Smith led off the inning again with a single, followed by a single from Satter the advanced Smith to third. Macy Ashley then hit a sacrifice fly to right that allowed Smith to score. With the score tied at seven, the bases loaded again with a single from Knight, Kyle being hit by a pitch and Satter advancing to third. Moneymaker, next at bat, was also hit by a pitch, bringing home Kaylee Satter and giving them the lead.
With bases still loaded, Brittney Dugan hit a fielder’s choice to third base. Beech Grove attempted a play at home but Knight scored. Beech Grove then made a fielding error allowing Kyle to cross the plate as well. One more run was added to the board when Moneymaker crossed the plate on a passed ball and the Braves finished the inning with an 11-7 lead.
In the top of the seventh, IC’s defense closed out the game with three up, three down on Beech Grove’s batters for the senior night win.
