This week’s Athlete of the Week is: Junior Football player Ethan Whitaker
Ethan Whitaker is the son of David Whitaker and Julie Williams, and is the younger brother of former IC Cheerleader Becca Whitaker. Ethan is beginning his junior season with a new role on the football team, and he is excited for the opportunity ahead of him. Last year, Whitaker was the starting quarterback for the JV team, earning MVP honors at the end of the year. Ethan’s athleticism and speed has landed him a new position on the Varsity squad this year: Slot Receiver. Ethan’s mindset or attitude towards the position change is nothing any of the coaches or other players are questioning, as they know his goals are directed towards the team. “Ethan is a player that just wants to play where he can best help the team, and with his athleticsm, he could play anywhere on the field. I recall a game last year in which Ethan asked to play Wide Receiver and told the coach to have the QB throw a deep route to him. They called the play and Ethan caught the game-winning touchdown.” said Indian Creek Athletic Director Justin Ray. Like most Varsity players, Ethan has an individual goal of making the All-Conference Team, but ultimately his goal is to help the team make a run to the state game in Lucas Oil Stadium.
Ethan and the rest of the Braves open up their season this Friday at Greensburg for their annual Scrimmage beginning at 7 PM.
